David, 38, signed up for Fit Fans because he knew he needed to lose weight, but lacked the guidance and knowledge to achieve this successfully. Fit Fans appealed to him because of the group nature. As an Ipswich Town fan he liked the idea of the camaraderie that you find within a group of football fans!

David said: “I’ve really enjoyed the course and I’m definitely going to continue, even though I’ve already lost a considerable amount of weight. I can see a huge change and I feel much healthier. It was great fun being with the rest of the group and I loved the ‘terrace ethic’ which helped when things got hard.”

David would recommend the programme to any other men who know they need to lose weight but don’t want to go down the traditional route of gyms or team sports. He added: “The course leader wasn’t preachy and didn’t make you feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. He encouraged us and laughed with us - it’s a great way to get in shape!”

In the 12 weeks of the first Fit Fans programme, David lost a fantastic 7.9kgs!

Graham, 45, signed up for Fit Fans because he wanted to lose weight in a fun way. As an Ipswich Town fan, the link with the club really appealed to him. Graham, who works at Suffolk County Council was also attracted by the proximity of the classes, which were taking place at Portman Road, just a minute’s walk from his office in Endeavour House.

Graham said: “The fact that the programme was free, it was with other likeminded men and it took place at Portman Road was a huge draw for me.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of being with the guys and I made lots of new friends, as well as losing weight and feeling fitter and better about myself.”

Graham has committed to continuing with the programme to lose even more weight, but also to educate himself even more about healthy foods, exercise and how to look after himself better. He added: “I’ve successfully changed my eating habits, so not only have I enjoyed myself and lost weight, but I’ve also learned skills which I can implement at home and once the programme has finished.”

In the 12 weeks of the first Fit Fans programme, Graham lost a brilliant 5.2kgs!
