Oct Winner - Bury St Edmunds School Nurse Team - Copy

The school nursing team in Bury St Edmunds has been praised for their commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of children and young people in the town.

We have commended the team of six nurses for their dedication to supporting young people in Bury St Edmunds who are overweight. As the county’s healthy lifestyles service, we run child weight management courses in Bury to help children who are above a healthy weight reduce their BMI (Body Mass Index).

We regularly receive referrals from the school nurses and have named the winner of our monthly prize draw after receiving the most number of referrals from them last month. We’d also like to congratulate the team for their ability to sensitively approach the issue of a healthy weight with children and their families.

Heather Osborn, Head of Children’s Weight Management at Live Well Suffolk, said: “Talking about a child’s weight is an incredibly difficult and sensitive issue, but the school nurses in Bury do a fantastic job to engage with both young people and their families. They were our top referrers in October and to say thank you we selected them as the winner of our monthly prize draw and presented them with a healthy hamper for their efforts.”

A spokesperson for the school nursing team in Bury St Edmunds added: “We’ve worked with Live Well Suffolk’s child weight management practitioners jointly in schools across the town and meet with them on a regular basis to share ideas and suggestions. We now find that parents are much more clearly informed and are more likely to access and engage with the Live Well Suffolk child weight management service, something which has continued to improve outcomes for children in our area.”
