New campaign to help local residents improve health of their finances

January 25th, 2016

M

A new campaign has been launched across Suffolk to help people save money and improve their health and wellbeing.

Our ‘Spend Less, Live More’ awareness drive will be running across the county for four weeks from today (Monday 25th January), providing local residents tips and advice on managing their post-Christmas finances.

Stopping smoking, eating healthily, making value-for-money meals and taking advantage of free physical activity opportunities have all been cited as ways people could reduce their spending.

Steven Lee-Foster, Director of Live Well Suffolk explains: “Making some simple healthy lifestyle changes can go a long way to helping people manage their money. For example, stopping smoking can be a great way to save – someone smoking 20-a-day could save up to £250 a month!”

“Shopping smarter can be a big help too – planning meals and making a shopping list can help to avoid impulse buys. Buying less prepared food can be useful too – things like ready meals, biscuits and sweets all bump up the cost at the till. When it comes to exercising there’s no need to fork out on expensive gym memberships – there’s a huge ranges of free fitness activities in Suffolk to take advantage of, from local parkruns to outdoor gyms.”

Throughout the ‘Spend Less, Live More’ campaign, we will be sharing recipe ideas for healthy family meals that can be made for £5 or less on our Facebook and Twitter pages. We have also produced a leaflet, which includes a spending diary and 10 top tips to help people stretch their budgets, which is available from pharmacies across Suffolk.

As the healthy lifestyles service for the county, we can support local residents who are looking to save money by either stop smoking, eating healthier or by taking advantage of free physical activity options. All services are free and more information can be found on our website or by phoning us 01473 229292. Alternatively, you can download our Spend Less, Live More leaflet here.
